EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a person was killed by police in Eugene after pointing a rifle at officers.

Eugene Police Chief Pete Kerns stated officers went to an condo complicated Tuesday after studying an armed man was holding a lady and her youngster hostage.

The suspect subsequently left on foot, and police thought he may need fled to the house of a relative who lives in the identical complicated.

Kerns say officers noticed the suspect in an condominium and ordered him to return out together with his palms up. He says the person got here out with a rifle pointed at officers and refused to drop the weapon.

Two officers fired, hanging the person who was pronounced lifeless at a hospital.
