Girl rescued from manhole was yelling for help for an hour


BUFFALO, N.Y. — A 9-yr-previous western New York woman who broke her ankle after falling via an open manhole into the sewer 12 ft under yelled for assist for an hour earlier than a passer-by heard her.

Capt. Daniel O’Leary of the Buffalo Hearth Division tells WKBW-TV the woman was trapped in a foot of dashing water after falling by way of the open gap whereas strolling to high school in Buffalo round 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

He says crews lowered a ladder, and she or he was capable of climb out.

It’s unknown why the opening was not coated. A spokesman for the town says crews weren’t doing sewer work within the space.
