PIERRE, S.D. — A wrongful dying lawsuit has been filed towards a federal American Indian boarding faculty by the household of a woman who dedicated suicide.
Emerson Little Elk says the Pierre Indian Studying Middle did not adequately monitor his 14-yr-previous granddaughter, who had a historical past of melancholy and had made prior threats of suicide. The woman died on the faculty in October 2015.
The Argus Chief says the household’s lawsuit claims the varsity was negligent and is asking a jury to award compensation for ache and struggling, funeral bills and attorneys’ charges.
The Pierre boarding faculty is overseen by the U.S. Division of Inside’s Bureau of Indian Schooling and serves Native American college students with behavioral, psychological well being and emotional wants in grades one via eight.
