Campus free speech is on its deathbed

In a very jaw-dropping new low for the American campus, a scholar group simply shut down a chat by an American Civil Liberties Union chief on free speech.

Claire Guthrie Gastañaga, the ACLU’s Virginia chief, was set to speak final week on “College students and the First Modification” on the venerable School of William & Mary. However the faculty’s Black Lives Matter chapter wouldn’t have it.

College students rushed the stage, chanting “liberalism is white supremacy” and “the revolution won’t uphold the Structure.”

The speaker tried for a dialogue: “Good, I like this. . . I’m going to speak to you about figuring out your rights, and protests and demonstrations, which this illustrates very nicely.”

In order that they chanted over her. Speech canceled, whereas the protesters ranted on. “When is the free speech of the oppressed protected?” one requested.

And: “We face higher limitations and penalties for talking.” Besides that they obtained to speak, and Gastañaga didn’t.

The school later issued a tut-tut press launch, guaranteeing the youngsters will strike once more.

Then once more, the ACLU has its personal issues: A full 200 of its staffers have petitioned their leaders to cease defending free speech for white supremacists. That’s an excellent chunk of the group’s personal employees that actually doesn’t perceive the rules it was based to uphold.

True liberalism is taking a look at extinction.
