California sheriff: ‘Screw-up’ behind release of molester

A California sheriff says a “screw-up” led to the mistaken launch of an inmate who had pleaded responsible to baby molestation.

The Merced Solar-Star reported Thursday that Merced County jailers mistakenly allowed 38-yr-previous Primitivo Gonzalez to submit bail on Nov. 22.

Gonzalez had pleaded responsible to repeatedly molesting a 5-yr-previous woman.

A decide had ordered him held with out bail till sentencing, when he confronted 35 years-to-life in jail.

Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke says he takes duty for the mistaken launch and has taken steps to stop a repeat.

The sheriff defends not making public the person’s launch.

He says he believed Gonzalez shortly returned to Mexico and is not a menace in Merced County.
